It is just as well that the year did not even really start so far, particularly at work. I was wondering what was going on because clearly something was up. Many members of the executive team were missing and there had been no formal meetings for two months into the new year. Well, now it is becoming clear. There seems to have been an investigation on some of the senior executives in the company and the outcome of this is now playing out. It is also opportune, as all of this had to be dealt with prior to the onset of Ramadan- which happens to be today. There were some cryptic emails sent yesterday by the boss regarding a couple of executives going on leave and a naming of the substitutes. Why they are going on leave is not clear. What is clear is that their IT credentials do not exist as of yesterday. We can make of that what we will for now.
For my own part, I still don't know what will be the end game here and whether I will be impacted as well. But for the moment, I have received fresh lease of life. At least one of the persons impacted had been a bugbear ever since I started. I was appalled at what he got away with- and now it seems as if things are unravelling for him. I wish him well- had nothing personal against him, just felt he was bad mojo for the company. It is just as well that I re-organise my own life a bit as of today. I have to revert to regular writing, which I am doing at the moment. But that is not all. I have to start strength training- the two 7.5 kg dumb bells have to come out. Also, I do want to spend some time with my younger son. He is 10 and I think he needs a bit of propping up. There are a number of areas where he is falling short, even of his own expectations. And I know only too well how these seemingly innocuous childhood events can have lasting trauma. I will not go into too much detail other than to say, he is turning out to be a kid different from the stereotypical. He is generally bright, but has very strong and obdurate personality which is already at this age showing its fury and as far as I can see, preventing him from moving ahead. I have very little hope that I can be of much help, but I have to do what I can. I think I have been rather laissez-faire as far as this is concerned, thinking it will all be allright in the end. It may be and it may not be. But what, pray, is the use of me being here if I cannot chip in with my 2 cents. For my elder son, I was pretty much non-existent when he was this age, but somehow I think I got lucky wherein he did not need my intervention as much. Ofcourse he needs to be told to be on the straight and narrow- but that is normal parenting. With my younger one, it is a multi-faceted challenge as he does not take kindly to being told off. He does not take kindly to any form of rejection and he further does not take kindly to being told what to do and how to do it. So on the one hand, he is clever enough to pick things up if he puts his mind to it, but alas his mind is a roving and raging spirit that simply cannot be tamed. I need to figure out a way to get through- and ultimately this is the only real skill that is ever required isnt it. Figuring out a way to get through to other people and make them do their best. You can call it coaching, but it is basically a way to get the very best out of everyone else. This usually is a task given to you if it is felt you are already on the right path as far your individual self is concerned. Usually, but not always. You hear of very ordinary under-achieving people occasionally inspiring greatness amongst others. They have figured out a way of getting through- perhaps by using their own under-achievement as a lever. I feel like I can achieve more, there is enough juice left I think, but hard as it is, I have to realise that my runway is pretty much over. I have done enough already where anything more will have marginal increased utility. It is far more expedient to focus on my 10 year old- whose runway is far from even appearing on his view-finder.
Aside of my new project with my 10 year old, I need also to figure out some other issues with my overall health- but am hoping that my strength training regimen will help with that as well. Today, I have to go to a Puja at a neighbours in an hours time, so very soon I shall get ready for that. Post the puja celebration, I will head to Ranojoy's to work on my other project, one that I endearingly call "Treble Ali"- wherein R and I will collaborate on some Pop and rock material that could be performed as a duo but will a full band sound- handy for house-parties and such. That also requires that we are able to eliminate another friend who wants to be a part of this- for otherwise the project is DOA, as my other friend is not ready musically to be pulling off something of the ambition that I have. How we send him this message without making him upset- I don't know. But should I really care- I think not. At the end of the day, every one needs to look themselves in the mirror- and it is no one's job to bring the mirror closer to them. If they do, that's fine and dandy but there is not an obligation to do so. Would you agree?
